Will Disgraced Former MP Jacqui Smith pay back our £116,000?

The general reaction to Jacqui Smith's mealy-mouthed mea culpa on last night's QT can be summed up as 'Fine. So pay back our £116,000 and we'll believe you'.

I suspect if Jacqui stands for Redditch next year without having paid back the cash she stole, the voters there will take the same view. After which we can get used to calling her Disgraced Former MP Jacqui Smith ....

This has to be the standard question asked of any of the porcine troughers from now on.

"So did you/will you pay back what you owe?"

If the answer is anything but an unqualified "yes", then they may, just may get a vote, will be my answer.

And that goes for anyone on a quango, local council etc.

Or maybe not...

What a mess all this is. What a bunch of no-hopers we have in charge. How did it happen?

They lied to us - over and over again.

Although I'm enjoying the downfall of these opportunists as much as anyone, after the schadenfreude phase we may be left with 646 amateur/novice/incapable MPs. Let's hope sufficient good, experienced and competent MPs are re-elected to shepherd the new intake through the first few months. The last thing the country needs is more power devolved to the civil service by the novice ministers - strong direction will be needed to overcome the traditional resistance to change by those mandarins.

And then hand herself in to the local police station for fraud, do a couple of years in Holloway followed by some decades volunteering in a soup kitchen for drug addicts.
Thus might Jaqui and her kind find earthly redemption.
