MSM Budget verdicts are deluded

For the vast majority of voters there are only two types of budget; 'taxes up' or 'taxes down'. After thirteen years of Labour no-one under about 35 will ever remember a 'taxes down' budget, and this one will just join the long queue of Labour 'taxes up' measures.

The verdicts in the MSM this morning attribute Darling with an acumen that will escape the public, declaring this to be an 'election budget' steering a cautious path between doing just enough to prevent the UK from losing an AAA rating and giving Gordon some election ammo. To be frank, the only people to whom this will be apparent are political wonks and their dags. As far as the public are concerned, it's just another 'taxes up' budget.
