I suspect Cameron acted to defend Cameron - doing the only thing that would keep him as PM
I'd caution against excessive exuberance and the dangers of getting carried away and seeing more than is actually there.
We are a long way from leaving the EU, or fundamentally changing our relationship with it, and it isn't yet certain that Cameron's "veto" is a step in that direction. Let's see what concrete measures come next, if any.
