Breedlove fans the flame of war

Giving a passable reprise of the role of Gen Jack D Ripper (played by Sterling Heyden) in Dr Strangelove, the improbably named Philip Breedlove, current NATO boss, seems determined to start a war with Russia whether we need one or not. Ripper of course was insane, but whether or not Breedlove also believes that Fluoride in the water supply is affecting his 'precious bodily fluids' is unknown. What's certain is that he's doing his best to de-stabilise peace efforts in Ukraine - and as Der Spiegel reports, is seriously worrying the German government;
For months, Breedlove has been commenting on Russian activities in eastern Ukraine, speaking of troop advances on the border, the amassing of munitions and alleged columns of Russian tanks. Over and over again, Breedlove's numbers have been significantly higher than those in the possession of America's NATO allies in Europe. As such, he is playing directly into the hands of the hardliners in the US Congress and in NATO. The German government is alarmed. Are the Americans trying to thwart European efforts at mediation led by Chancellor Angela Merkel? Sources in the Chancellery have referred to Breedlove's comments as "dangerous propaganda." Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier even found it necessary recently to bring up Breedlove's comments with NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg.
As close an ally as the US is, we must remember that she always acts wholly in her own interests. At a time when the US is closing bases in Europe and continuing to run down military commitment to NATO, why should Breedlove, presumably with official support, seek to talk up a war which would be largely fought by Europeans, and which would act to destroy Europe's delicate economic recovery?

When all is added up, what the fuck can Europe do?

There is not the will nor is there the wherefore to go to war with Russia.

Surely, even the armchair warriors - Washington shite-hawks haven't the brass to start an engagement with Putin's Russia, a bridgehead in Lithuania - it's a long way to fucking go.

Breedlove looks like he's channeling the U.S. Navy of the 80s. The lack of a moral compass led admirals to pieces of brinksmanship that are breathtaking - and still shrouded in secrecy....

Part of that story is here The feigned attack on the Kola peninsula and the attempt to provoke war with Iran are stand-out bits of loose cannon antics from out of control military - topped off by Admiral Boorda's suicide....

The U.S. Army has been denuded of much senior experience and competence and mired in some very sordid sexual stuff. Breedlove seems to epitomise the sort of dangerous willy waving crank that exploits a vacuum like that created by the U.S.A's foreign policy.

be afraid....

While you were publishing this scary understanding, angels were writing what the reasons might be for Breedlove (!)'s actions (and the woman's) in another part of the world.

You are there, cool and comprehending, while the legions of angels are too cross to just write it down. Sorry R, I didn't know when I pressed send, but you easily beat me to it.

War seems a bit of a big word for it.
The Russian army would run out of steam by Konigsberg and Kiev
The NATO forces would be lucky to mobilise and get to either in a month.

As likely as a vicious war between Iceland and Tonga

"largely fought by Europeans"......how? with what? for what purpose?-the gas pipelines would be more secure under Russian rule.

NATO is thrashing around, looking for a role to play, nothing gets done without Obamas say-so, by the time he makes up his mind the Russians could be in Paris.

Merkel WILL appease the Russians for natural gas, Ukraine will have no say whatsoever.

With 14 trillion dollars of debt to service the yanks are badly in need of a war, or two.

There are no winners in a thermonuclear war.

So.

It'll be the next level down and the winner will be the one who crashes the most computer networks and simultaneously stops everything that flies.

A word of warning.

The Russians have extremely good hacking capabilities and their air-defence is probably the best in the world at the moment - they have a tracking and targeting system that can see through stealth technology.

The IAF has waltzed through every Russian supplied system complete with Russian operators they have come across, the USAF would no doubt do likewise. Its pretty much the same with Russian armour, they are just targets for western systems.

The IAF only have third rate systems to negotiate, do you really think that Putin sells his best technology to the camel jockeys and mad mullahs?

Think again.
