Papers ask "Is Coe Bent?"

Watching our national dailies wriggling around like fish trying to avoid defamatory content whilst they pose the question "Is Seb Coe bent?" is a lesson in how to launch a story without actually, er, launching a story. Essentially they state that (1) Eugene, a small village in America, was picked without a bidding process by bosses at the IAAF to host the world championships (2) Eugene is home to Nike, a global sportswear brand and that (3) Seb Coe has until very recently been a highly paid Nike advisor and was in charge of the IAAF when the decision was made.

I feel obliged to state that I have always found Coe to be as honest as he is trustworthy.

No defamation in the comments, please.

When William Hague became Conservative leader in 1997 he embarked on a tour of the UK hosting public meetings to meet the proles. To do him credit (and by and large I liked him and many of his views) he even made the effort to visit the extremely inaccessible bit of the UK where I was living at the time.

He travelled, of course, with an assortment of flunkies, minders and fixers who seemed to see their job as getting in the way of the hoi-polloi; one of these worthies was Coe. I acknowledge your point, Raedders, that Coe is as honest as he is trustworthy. May I add to the summary that I found him to be as likeable and disarming as you evidently found him trustworthy?

Remember:
1] that Coe is/was a professional "athlete", the sort of man who deliberately enjoys sending terrified small boys out on to muddy cold windswept cross-country runs & football pitches, where they can & will be unmercifully bullied.
2] that Coe, of his own volition deliberately & publicly associated with known fascists, who had blood on their hands.
Google "J A Samaranch."

Yuck

Coe epitomises the modern, relatively young Tories who created in their own images the present day Conservative Future. Their publicity machine now reaping the accolades so deserved. The Public will no doubt respond with a mass rise in support for all things Tory. Not least Cameron's total commitment to drive us happily into the EUSSR dictatorship. Few realise that post a rigged referendum win, the euro will not be far behind.

I've never liked Mr Coe. I wonder what the fellow athletes from that era; Steve Cram, Steve Ovett, for example; think about him?

So maybe Seb argued the case. So what? Eugene maybe made some money, Nike maybe got some more exposure, but the event presumably went without a hitch, medals were awarded and participants left satisfied. Fiddling (if that is what happened) with who hosts an event is not in the same league as drug taking to win.
After all, I'd have thought that it was worth a bribe of several millions not to have held the 2012 Olympics here, if only not to have had the opening and closing ceremonies with all that leftie bollocks, and not to have hosed all that taxpayers' money into a black hole.

Coe was and is fundamentalist, a driven man, one eyed, relentless and certain of his own rectitude. I am quite sure that, he can be solicitous and even appear kind hearted and generous in nature - if you fell for it, then you're a fool, the fellow's an ice man and Coe enterprises - are all he is interested in.

In my eyes, he's [Coe] just as dangerous as terrorist sympathizer and shadow whatever tovarich - McDonnell and with his mate comrade Jezza.

He doesn't fool me.

The big question is, if it all gets complicated, will he do a runner?

He's fast, it is hard to catch up with him.

We need that pesky thing, evidence before we can conclusively say and that's not likely to be forthcoming, is it?
