My long gone mum, bless her, was a feminist ahead of her time - she made all of us 50s born boys wash up after she had cooked, and taught me how to cook. And how to cook such things as Onion Gravy, essential with Bangers & Mash or Toad.

What AWFUL looking gravy! Surely that's thin fudge??? Try this.Coarsely chop two onions and fry HOT in a little oil until they start to brown. Sprinkle 1 rounded tablespoon of brown sugar over the onions and stir in. Make up 1/2 pint vegetable stock (Knorr cubes are best imho) and add to onions. Simmer until reduced to suitable thickness.Taste and then repeat after me..... mmmm hmmmmm...
I'm surprised you had time to make this!But Toad is a staple here at the Turrets, and with the best snags, it makes a veritable feast well worthwhile!
Aye simple scran is best, always keep it simple.I also like pasta, tomatoes, onions and basil, oregano and cheese too.God, I'm famished!
Try slicing some carots and onions and adding them into the batter when you pour it over.
And a small teaspoon of Marmite for the gravy as well!
