Two down, two to go.
The verdicts in the MSM this morning attribute Darling with an acumen that will escape the public, declaring this to be an 'election budget' steering a cautious path between doing just enough to prevent the UK from losing an AAA rating and giving Gordon some election ammo. To be frank, the only people to whom this will be apparent are political wonks and their dags. As far as the public are concerned, it's just another 'taxes up' budget.

Members of the Israeli parliament likened the British government to “anti-Semitic dogs” and demanded the expulsion of Britain’s military attaché in Tel Aviv.
“The British are being hypocritical, and I do not wish to insult dogs here, since some dogs show true loyalty, [but] who gave the British the right to judge us on the war on terror?” said Arieh Eldad, a Right-wing member of the Knesset.
Another member, Michael Ben-Ari, said: “Dogs are usually loyal, the British may be dogs, but they are not loyal to us. They seem to be loyal to the anti-Semitic establishment.”
By paying for trips to Israel by members of the CFI and LFI, Mossad undoubtedly have secured a source of high-quality passports to copy for use by their agents, and no doubt carefully planned 'honey operations' during CFI and LFI trips have yielded a rich harvest of blackmail material.
However, some of us are immune to influence, and will applaud the expulsion from the UK of the man responsible for orchestrating the activities of Israeli death squads in this country.
Since those days, smoking has dramatically declined, has disappeared altogether from public transport and buildings, to the extent that most children now never even get a whiff of a ciggie.
Yet over the same time, Asthma rates in children have increased exponentially. Indeed, one can convincingly correlate the decrease in childhood exposure to tobacco smoke and the increase in childhood Asthma.
In developing countries, where smoking is increasing and tobacco companies are expanding markets, there has been no increase in childhood Asthma. At all.
Honest scientists admit they have no idea why childhood Asthma has increased in the developed world, but that it's unlikely to have anything to do with tobacco smoke. An increase in antibiotics prescribed by doctors is statistically more significant than other causes.
Dishonest factions, such as the untutored bigots in the BMA and the medical colleges, will happily lie in support of their spurious claims as dishonestly as climate change experts or politicians.
Don't believe their lies.

For Simon Jenkins, doyen of Localism, it must have been a busy time. Documentaries are like buses - nothing for ages, then two come along at the same time. First, Portillo's take on mending our broken democracy on Saturday, then Bliar's erstwhile biographer Seldon last night.
The answer that Jenkins gently steered both men towards was the same; only a mass devolution of power from Whitehall to village hall will restore faith and trust in democracy. This is fast becoming something of a revealed truth, lacking only the revisionist backlash docu promoting central Statism as the best way forward, with Gordon Brown and Ed Balls speaking in support.
Localism, it seems, is going mainstream. When I started this blog back in 2007 to promote Localism and condemn the loathsome political class, the former was something a bit cranky; the recommendations of the first 'Power' enquiry, a seminal paper on big-bang Localism by Simon Jenkins and a few academic essays, and a few bloggers. Then Hannan and Carswell published a neat little book that embraced Localist principles, and finally Dave now includes it in his speeches although it's clear that as yet neither Eric or the rest of team Cameron know what it is. Still, progress indeed.

When Mandelson latches onto the zeitgeist and promises to get government off our backs, as he did in a speech to the Federation of Small Businesses in Aberdeen, you know he actually means that government will be ever more intrusive, ever more dictatorial and ever more of a burden. But he spins a brave lie, does Mandy;
A government off your back, but on your side
Let’s be clear, Britain needs to build a new growth model for the future. In a globalised economy we need to think about being pro-business much more as a partnership between business and government. The skills and infrastructure and science and technology that you leverage into jobs and growth are a critical part of our comparative advantage. And they don’t come out of the air.
And I’m pleased to be able to announce today a big new extension of the BusinessLink and Business Gateway services and their equivalents in Wales and Northern Ireland.
The new system will for the first time make it possible to use one single website to find out everything you need to know to apply for an authorization or license for almost any services trade from architecture to hairdressing, and to make an application. More than 500 local authorities and bodies will be seamlessly linked into one system.
If anyone in the FSB actually believed that creating a one-stop direct link between them and Whitehall's central State command and control system will benefit anyone except Whitehall you would have heard the b'aaaaaahs by now.
I am convinced that big-bang Localism is the only way in which public spending can be brought back under control whilst maintaining social equity and those services we all value. We must constrain government to run directly only those sectors of our economy that cannot be devolved or left to the market alone; defence, air trafic control, international treaties and the like, and the functioning of a universal court system. For this we must both leave the EU and value Europe as both our most important trading partner and our cultural nexus.
More than anything else, Labour's central command-and-control economy abetted by the suffocating constraints of EU federalist law has driven the size of the public sector upwards, adding layers of cost and complexity whilst reducing economic efficiency.
52%. I am simmering. I can't digest the sheer economic incompetence, the stupidity, the malfeasance, the criminal irresponsibility of Brown and his shoddy cohort at so despoiling our nation's finances. A trillion in Brown's taxes pissed away, wasted. We're paying GPs £160k a year instead of £75k, and for why? Because Labour made a central decision and got it wrong, rather than leaving it to local determination. They got almost everything wrong. The Mail reports that Islington's Town Clerk will trouser £1m over three years because Whitehall mandarins rather than local people now run our councils. And the more they blunder, the more they want to introduce yet further controls to correct the failures of previous controls in a deadly spiral of waste and inefficiency.
52%. They belong in jail.

Margaret Moran seems to be claiming she's a mentalist and therefore not responsible for being bent, whilst the others are relying on admitting that they're so incredibly stupid that they shouldn't be left alone near table forks or blunt scissors. That the three claiming stupidity - Hoon, Hewitt and Byers - are ex-ministers will only confirm the views of many as to the calibre of the Labour administration.
The deeply corrupt and very stupid former Speaker, Michael Martin, has made corruption much easier for disgraced former MPs by granting them all access to the Palace of Westminster for life; to enjoy its subsidised bars and restaurants, smoking facilities and with unrivalled opportunities to bribe, cajole and blackmail the next Parliamentary intake. Jacqui Smith can distribute porn DVDs, Derek Conway promote his employment agency and even those now being prosecuted for fraud can retire to the tearooms after a hard day in court. At the very time the public wants these Augean stables cleared of shit, Martin has enabled keeping them filled with it.
The bent bastard scum have betrayed us all. They deserve every manifestation of opprobrium that can be flung at them.
