Whatever the outcome, Greece wins, Germany loses?

I know the economics of all this are horrendously complicated, but reading the full spectrum of comment and analysis in the papers today, there appear to be 2 outcomes;

No vote - Greece leaves Euro, returns to drachma, immediate hyperinflation then settles down to reasonable debt-free prosperity, Germany loses €300bn of debt

Yes vote - Greece stays in Euro, ECB maintains immediate liquidity, IMF insists on Greece's debtors (Germany foremost amongst them) taking a severe haircut on the outstanding debt to the extent that allows Greece a working, if austere, economy.

Is that it? If so, poor old Herman the German must be feeling a bit miffed at the EU right now. Still, having paid for Greece's new roads, air terminals and comms infrastructure at least they'll get those sunbeds cheap next year.

Islam is a religion of violence, but most Moslems are peaceful

In the post below I wrote that the BBC were right to reject the PM's call for a change of name for ISIS but for the wrong reasons. The Tories were also right to pick up on the Nazi meme - the duty of the State broadcaster to the national interest overides any aesthetic desire for 'impartiality'.

It is a paradox that we have to accept that Islam is a religion of violence, bigotry and intolerance but that the vast, overwhelming majority of Moslems are peaceful. Thank you, Greg. And why is it that the combined intellects of the Conservative Party, the SNP and the BBC are unable to understand a matter so simple that the Speccie can explain it in a handful of words?

It has been the Speccie's Douglas Murray who has fearlessly done most to disabuse the nation of the nonsense of Islam as a 'religion of peace'. And it's the Speccie this morning that states clearly
To say that Islamic State has nothing to do with Islam is like saying Stalin’s Soviet Union had nothing to do with socialism, or the Inquisition had nothing to do with Catholicism. Islamic State has nothing to do with most varieties of Islam, just as Stalinism had nothing to do with most varieties of socialism, but Islamic State has everything to do with Salafist Sunni Islam, which has spread its ultra-puritan, ultra-reactionary literalist interpretation of the myths of early Islam across the world.

As the historian of the ancient world Tom Holland put it, when Islamic State fighters smash the statues of ‘pagan’ gods, they are following the example of the Prophet, who cleared the pagans from Mecca. When they proclaim themselves the shock troops of a would-be global empire, they are merely following the imperial pretensions of the early Islamic armies. When they execute prisoners of war, impose discriminatory taxes on Christians, and take the women of defeated opponents as slaves, they are doing nothing that the first Muslims did not do. As Holland neatly put it,
Such behaviour is certainly not synonymous with Islam; but if not Islamic, then it is hard to know what else it is.
So let's stop pretending that Islam is something it isn't. We're really grown-up enough to be able to handle this paradox; for Christians, it's 'hate Islam, love Moslems', and atheists and agnostics can condemn us both.

BBC defies Churchill over 'Chancellor' Hitler

A call by the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Winston Churchill MP, to the BBC to stop calling the German enemy Chancellor Herr Hitler and awarding his cronies their full titles, such as Reichsmarshall Goering and Reichsminister Bormann, has been rejected by the BBC on the grounds that the organisation is required to be impartial. The BBC also rejected on the same grounds a call to refer to the German governing party as 'Nazis' instead of using their full NSDAP designation.

The Chairman of the BBC said yesterday "Irrespective of the fact that Britain is at war with Germany, the BBC has a duty of impartiality and must stick to the titles and styles preferred by the NSDAP political leadership of the Third Reich. We cannot simply abandon our neutrality to support the UK - this would be biased"

The BBC is understood to have prepared contingency plans in the event of a German invasion of Britain that would hand over the country's entire broadcasting infrastructure intact to the invaders. "To deny the new NSDAP Gauleiter of the British Isles the use of our broadcasting equipment would not be impartial" said a BBC spokesman yesterday.

[NB The BBC's decision to continue referring to ISIS as Islamic State is actually the right one - but made for all the wrong reasons]

Islamist females as deadly as the males

If you haven't already heard or seen one of the new breed of Islamist women justifying on the media those beliefs the PM has condemned as unacceptable, you will before long. Radical Islamism has bred a new form of vocal feminist - but this time in a veil, and without a shred of those feminine qualities of love and pity with which we endow Western womanhood. These hard, vicious bitches worship with the Islamic death cult just as fervently as the men.

There is something inherently disordered about this feminist Islamism - but it is hardly new. As Kipling wrote "When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains, and the women come out to cut up what remains ..." There is also something inherently wrong about articulate, well-educated and young Islamist women supporting the mediaeval bestiality of the Koran as interpreted by the fanatics.

So far, as has been pointed out in the comments, the beardy elder Islamic haters have been conspicuously absent from the queue for the suicide vests; they prefer to grow paunches back in the mosques and madrassas and send the smooth-cheeked kiddies to self-detonation in the shopping malls.

But how long before one of these twisted Islamist bitches pulls an AK74 from her burqa in the Arndale?

Petulant little nobody 'feels betrayed'

If ever there were a greater exhibition of folie de grandeur than shown by unelected EU official JC Juncker today I've yet to find it. This petulant little nobody says he 'feels betrayed' that Greece has failed to agree austerity measures by today and is set to default on loan repayments tomorrow.

Dear Herr Juncker, you are a nobody. When the history of Europe is written you will be lucky to appear even as a footnote in 6pt print alongside other forgotten trash such as the Vuvuzela. No-one knows who you are, few recognise the silly titles and pompous styles you have adopted. You are a minor here today gone tomorrow unelected official. Greece on the other hand is a sovereign nation with five thousand years of history, art, culture, war, civilisation and literature behind it. Against Greece you are as nothing, so small and insignificant so as not even to register on a macroscopic scale. You are, to paraphrase Napoleon, a turd in a Milanese silk lounge suit.

You are an unelected official of a corrupt non-federation to whom no democratic citizen of any sovereign state in Europe owes even polite recognition, let alone fealty or allegiance. You are a minor clerk, a grey pen pusher, a nonentity, a servant and the only people who may betray you are your sub-clerks and minions, dags of your nothingness. Certainly the 500m citizens of Europe are not obliged even in good manners even to recognise you.

You are clearly, in the vernacular, so far up your own arse that you can lick your own gall bladder and are in clear need of some perspective on how utterly insignificant you are.

Britain's National Barrier

National Barrier on manoeuvres
Sometimes I feel that the government doesn't make enough of our quiet successes, such as the National Barrier. You didn't realise we had one? Well, there you go. The National Barrier was first commissioned for the 2012 Olympics and deployed in East London, after which it wasn't seen again until the last NATO summit in Wales in 2014. Now the Minister for the National Barrier, Mr James Brokenshire, is set to send the Barrier on its first foreign expedition - to Northern France. The Minister has been trying to deploy the fence in France since 2014, when it was much admired by NATO leaders, but the French, keen to extol the virtues of their own Barrière National, with an eye to export orders, have repeatedly blocked the UK deployment. However, this weekend the Barrier's handlers are under orders for Mobilisation

The nation's crack National Barrier Asset Team are based at Larkhill behind, er, high fences and train constantly using articulated loaders and Telehandlers in the precise alignment of Barrier components and assembly using specially forged spanners and Barrier keys. Barrier parts stand ready for home or overseas deployment at short notice, and are resilient to most environmental threats such as rain. This dedicated team of men and women are maintained on full alert at all times, ready to deploy the National Barrier on a moment's notice from the Minister.

So there you have it. Mr Brokenshire has a powerful asset at his disposal, and the United Kingdom can rest easier in its bed that we have the National Barrier.
