When Guardian comrades fall out

The disintegration of the left is the gift that goes on giving; hardly a day passes without one fraternal comrade thrusting a knife into the back of another. Honestly. The Tories just don't have to bother - the brothers are doing it themselves.

Now two of the Guardian's foremost cis-scribblers are at eachother's throats; Nick Cohen and trainee welder Owen Jones. I don't know whether Cohen backs Fatboy or some fourth party but the handbags are definitely unsheathed.

"This is the final word on the matter" declares Jones optimistically on Medium, then goes on to write
The response to the current terrible political situation by Nick Cohen is as follows: “I Told You So You Fucking Fools!” In a profanity-ridden rant, he says supporting Corbyn in the first place was a colossal misjudgement despite all the warnings about what would happen. Let me be polite about this. Cohen was a passionate and unapologetic supporter of the Iraq war, one of the greatest calamities of our time, a ‘misjudgement’ (I’d prefer ‘crime’) so colossal that ‘catastrophic’ doesn’t even begin to cover it, a war waged on a false pretext which led to the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people, countless others maimed and traumatised, millions driven from their homes, Iraq turned into a hunting ground for sectarian murderers and Islamist fanatics, which played a critical role in violently destabilising the Middle East. Cohen demands penitence for those who backed someone who will lead Labour to defeat. That’s not quite on the scale of noisily backing a calamity that slaughtered hundreds of thousands of people. Imagine being unrepentant about backing one of the worst disasters of the post-war era and then abusively attacking others for failures of judgement.
Wow.

I normally try to ignore Owen Jones but I decided to read his rant about Corbyn and the state of the Labour Party ..... verbal diahorrea doesn't do it justice. And it's delusional. He seems to think that if the incompetent Corbyn was changed to another more competent left-wing leader, a light-bulb will go on it the voters' heads and Labour will romp home in a General Election.

He obviously doesn't understand that politics has changed for a generation. The only kind of socialism which is gaining traction across the west are versions of national socialism, not the international socialism variety of the Labour Party. That's why the SNP has vanquished Labour in Scotland. And it's up against a version of conservatism which is (finally) responding to the voters' demands for national governance; control of immigration and an agenda which doesn't just serve the interests of the international elite.

Mind you, his comments about Cohen and the Iraq War were spot on.

Agree with DeeDee:

"Mind you, his comments about Cohen and the Iraq War were spot on."

bliar and his yankee master opened Pandora's box but hey we've been fucking up thereabouts since the day of the sticking it to the German allies - Ottomans via desert fighter lawrence and remember Iran cock up in 1953, then I think later on Saddam became an 'ally' of the west if I'm not mistaken....................what a clusterfuck.

I couldn't bear to link with that little boy's effluvia, aimply is not worth the effort.

Having said that, I am enjoying the circus - when do they send in the hyenas - oh silly bugger! they're already there!?

Dee Dee99, as you know National Socialism has a somewhat chequered history, so it's quite understandable that Corbyn wishes to distance himself and his vanishing party from it!
But I find all these definitions hard to follow, e.g., Lim Dems are neither liberal or democratic, Tories occupy the centre-left as far as UKIP on the "right", etc. As we are now in a "post truth" news era, it's increasingly hard to know what's what anymore. So poor little OJ must be struggling to remember what he believes from one day to the next!

Absolutely and what we now refer to as the 'Deep State', or if you prefer the military/industrial complex, are still hard at it bringing death and destruction to the bewildered masses of the Middle East. Some handover from empire to empire. The killing never stops.

Owen doesn't realise he and Cohen are history and utterly irrelevant

Look at the shortlist for Manchester and see the future of the Labour Party.

John Miller, spot on, the delusional academic outpourings of Cohen, Owen et al recall the "great flourishing of creativity" of the Soviet Intellectual elites prior to the arrival of Mr Stalin in 1928! Look how that ended! Only for Messrs Cohen, Owen, Peston ..... the list is endless, it will be the arrival of an Islamic sociopath.

Having watched American politics, it's difficult to not notice some of the memes going around. Once you see it, you start to notice it everywhere.

(((fourth party)))?
