Reasons to be Cheerful ..

Ian Dury should be compulsory for all those suffering the Brexit Blues.

Today very briefly, I offer you Farage achieving top place in the pre-EP opinion polling (which as a loyal Conservative I should deprecate cough cough) and Boris achieving top place in an Express leadership opinion poll. Add to this the spectacle of the self-loving little Sadiq Khan making an utter arse of himself in London trying to get down wiv der yoof (actually most of them went to £45k a year public schools and live in Surrey with Mummy) who in turn are pretending to get down wiv der Man.

Enough to make one smile.

Good Morning,

The EU election poll, highlighted on Guido, has given me hope too. Perhaps a thumping loss for the Tory party at local and EU polls will finally bring about the departure of that questionable life-form infesting No.10.
Ever hopeful!

We've had so many media driven proclamations of social and political changes that fade away into the grey background that I'm not holding my breath over the selection of a new Tory leader.

But The Brexit Party might be different. I doubt that that they will carry their popularity over into a General Election... but just as Farage and UKIP were a significant cause for holding the latest referendum, Farage and The Brexit Party could be a significant cause for resolving Brexit (or pressing for WAxit, if it comes to that).

The Conservative party needs to get back to its roots, common law, and free trade. The Brexit Party could show the way.

I prefer "My Old Man", it was the first tune I heard by Mr. Dury, as played by Charlie Gillet one sunday morning.

Unlike the majority's relationship with their "betters", this song talks about his rather strained relationship with his father, but portrays him as rather dignified, something that seems to be in short supply these days.

Happy Eater.

Just recently, I had declared that I would not bother voting for anything ever again. The reason being simple. Why bother? It changes nothing.

However, the Brexit party might just change that for me. Lets see if we get a candidate in the North West.

Not a chance. It will be our fault for not understanding.

Poisonedchalice :

The establishment/TPTB/the elites are only too happy for people to not vote in elections.

They would like to see the end of elections, particularly referendums and low voter turnout would be just the excuse they need to cancel them altogether.

So please always "vote" even if it means spoiling the ballot paper with a suitable message.

Spoiled ballot paper are recorded and numbers will be publicised if the numbers are sufficiently large to be newsworthy.

I am sure R-W means Happy Easter, or is he enjoying a good breakfast :-)

The fact that Boris got 80% highlights the poor alternatives. However, there are better than Boris available and he would be so pounded relentlessly by the MSM (all of whom have a dozen stories just waiting for the day)

Also, as we have seen, polls mean dick.

Brexit Party all the way in the EU elections IF we have them. My only fear is that disgruntled Conservatives will help BP but Labour will stay tribal and gain enormously: their partisan voting in all the recent HoP votes is what caused the delay (apart from Treason may that is!)

Oh, yes Span. I'm sure, that sending thirty cranky, cynical nobodies to the EU Parliament is just what this country needs to do to the world's richest, most enlightened, and civilised trading bloc.

While they're flicking food and making paper planes, the UK will be trying to preserve what it can of the nearly half of its external commerce, which is intimately woven into the EU at present.

I wish everyone the very best with that.

Well, polls may mean dick but if this is any indication at all then it certainly puts to lie the idea that a large majority of people are wanting to Remain and/or a second vote.....

Mark said...

Clarence,

I don't think we'll be the only ones sending "cynical crank nobodies".

Don't forget that they have tens of billions of their external commerce intimately tied into the UK.

I don't think they're flicking food in reality.

Just to keep the facts, er, factual here are the 2014 EP seats with the 2017 Party Manifesto pledges

UKIP - 24 seats - Pro Brexit (2017)
Labour - 20 seats - Pro Brexit (2017)
Conservative - 19 seats - Pro Brexit (2017)

The fact that Brexit is being betrayed by MPs who lied to get their seats in 2017 is another issue; 100% of EP seats are held by Pro-Brexit parties.

Since neither labour or the conservatives have denied their 2017 manifesto pledges, one must expect candidates to lie again for the 2019 Euros.

Bojo & Farage have both proven time and time again that they are liars, hypocrites, adulterers (Bojo at least, not sure about Farage), cowards, crooks and Betrayers of Their Electorate. In other words politicians and no different than almost any other politician you might care to name.

Why would any sane person 1.vote for them and 2.imagine that they will deliver the Paradise they promise? Fool me once, shame on you....

Mark. "They" are twenty-seven countries.

Yes, I know that they are all the same to some - "foreign" that is - so the brexiters can treat them as a homogeneous mass, or so they believe.

The economic - and infrastructural - position is completely assymetrical, in the EU's favour.

That is why the UK has done nothing but grovel thus far, and will continue so to do.

Mark said...

Clarence,

It is the remainer establishment that has grovelled and yes you are correct, these vichy jackals will continue shamelessly to do so.

We are not claiming they are all the same, it is the EUphiles who do that and it is the EU fanatics who are trying to force them together - treating them as a homogenous mass -via a catastrophic economic mechanism that is hammering wedges between them.

The UK is as big economically as the smallest 19 EU countries put together and a current account deficit of £80 billion or so in their favour, which us leaving their customs union puts under a very direct threat.

Hardly "completely assymetrical".

Let's see how "rich, enlightened and civilized" they are in a few years when these internal tensions become unsupportable. Their treatment of Greece for example, has certainly been a beacon. Of arrogance, ruthless contempt, presumption and ignorance. It won't be the last methinks.

"The euro will be dead and buried by Christmas 2012"; "There is going to be an earthquake"; etc. - Nigel Farage.

San Francisco was levelled by an earthquake in 1906. The next one is "overdue". Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean the fault has stopped moving.

The euro continues to grind the so called PIIGS (and not just them). Their debt isn't getting any less. The under 25s are still unemployed. The French and German banks are still massively exposed. The "fault" is still moving.

I do recall prior to 1999 a German economist (can't remember his name alas) who was anti making the very presient observation that the euro was "doomed to succeed". You can see what he meant.

I certainly won't be gloating when it does implode as it will have serious consequences for the whole world.

Clarence said...

Farage was talking about the 2015 election. He was quite date-specific for his predicted seismic event, which - like the euro failure - did not happen.

Surely you remember?

Wasn't that Eichengreen (an American btw)?
As far as I can recall, most of the German economists were at least 'dubious about' if not downright 'anti', especially after it was decided -against all financial reason- to let in the 'southern' countries.

30? The bloody place is FULL of them, and we have 650 at home too! I have had enough of all of them; the whole thing needs tearing down, under performing, over-ego-ed, overflowing self-entitlement, under- everything, overpaid shysters.

yes, the two speed version was always more sensible and could have worked.
